Profile
I am a Fine Art Printmaker specialising in soft ground etchings, creating affordable limited-edition prints inspired by my love of Scotlands Wildlife and Tribal Art. I work in the traditional method with zinc plates and nitric acid: coating the plates with wax then drawing and creating impressions of leaves, feathers, lace etc into the wax surface. The plates are then immersed in a bath of acid and where the wax is removed the acid bites grooves into the metal plate. These lines hold the ink creating the print when the plate is run through the etching press with damp paper on top. It’s a challenging but exciting method of printmaking that results in very intricate, detailed prints. As these are hand printed there can be a variation in tone and colour over the edition.
I exhibit my work at the Goldfinch Gallery in Comrie and open my studio during Perthshire Open Studios. Twice I’ve been awarded a prize at the Teeside Print Prize exhibition and in 2022 my print ‘The Pond’ was exhibited online at the 196th RSA Annual Exhibition and ‘Helen’ was online for the Scottish Portrait Awards. In 2023 ‘The Garden’ was selected and hung at the 197th RSA Annual Exhibition in Edinburgh.
This is a working studio so I’m very happy to show my working process and answer any questions.
Everyone is very welcome.
