Welcome to The Studio!

The Studio is my creative space in Abernethy, Perthshire, a place where ideas take shape and art is shared and explored. It’s both my working studio and a welcoming environment where you can step inside my personal practice and see work in progress alongside finished pieces. The Studio is also home to a range of workshops for children, teenagers, and adults, offering opportunities to learn new skills in a relaxed and supportive setting.

‘The Beautiful Error’ – My personal practice…

With the continued demand for refined mineral resources, Earth’s geological matter is increasingly misunderstood as a mere substance, ascribed value only through its conversion into an economic product, particularly products associated with technology. My digital photography and print practice considers our Earth’s own natural power to transform these ancient materials through time.

Through my work, I explore contemporary narratives, such as the negative environmental and social impacts of sourcing rare earth minerals such as copper, lithium, and cobalt—all essential elements of contemporary technology. I invite interested audiences to question the industrial use and disuse of our technology and consider the geology of media and where and how these resources travel around the world. I also engage in the concern of natural resource depletion as we physically and irreversibly change the Earth’s landscape through excavation and quarrying.

Sculpturally, I address the physical dimensions of geological materials. For example, the formation, cycles, characteristics, and identification of rocks combined with pixelated colourful glitches or unexpected errors occurring in human technology. Such combinations of ancient rock and digital suggest futuristic collisions of fossilised technology. You will be able to see work in progress and a variety of prints and wall pieces

Commissioned Pet Portraits and Art Workshops…

If you’re thinking about turning your pet into a piece of art, I also create custom pencil portraits that capture their personality, whether that’s calm and dignified, playful and cheeky, or somewhere in between. Each portrait is carefully hand-drawn in pencil, focusing on the fine details, textures, and expressions that make your pet uniquely yours. The simplicity of pencil creates a timeless, natural look that feels both elegant and personal. I offer a range of sizes to suit your space, along with framing options so your portrait can arrive ready to hang.The Studio has examples to browse and ‘Paw&Pencil’ commissions are now open for Christmas!
