Jane Drysdale creates kiln formed glass in her garden studio on the western edge of Crieff. A self taught artist working in glass for more than 20 years, she strives to learn more about this amazing medium and the possibilities of its different forms.
Jane Drysdale creates kiln formed glass in her garden studio on the outskirts of Crieff in Perthshire.
Her passion for glass began in 2000 when she travelled to America with her late husband whose family established Perthshire Paperweights. During the sales trip she discovered glass by world renowned artists working in this amazing medium and was intrigued by the techniques.
For a number of years she dabbled in fused glass and was successful in supplying shops and small galleries in Scotland and the north of England but in 2020 she decided to concentrate on glass full time and so began her journey of discovery.
Spending time in on line workshops, she gleaned skills and understanding from the best in the business, understanding what glass can do and how to work in partnership with the kiln to create textures, patterns and shapes and discovering that Glass making is not just art, it is science; physics and chemistry, there is an alchemy to the process.
Living in Scotland has given her the opportunity to explore its diverse landscapes throughout the seasons. Her inspirations for colour and texture comes from spending time outdoors on long walks with her camera, notebook and her canine studio companion.
“I make glass, I make things from glass, am not finished exploring what this amazing and beautiful stuff can do, I am at my best making glass, it is my happy place!”
Jane and her work can be seen at events at Kelvingrove, the V&A Dundee and Bowhouse, St Monans run by Tea Green Events and at the Creative Exchange in Perth or you can make an appointment to visit her at her studio
She is planning to offer “have a go” sessions during this summer, check on the Barkley Glass Facebook page
