Creative Trail
All Year Round
The Creative Trail was introduced in 2023 following a consultation where artists asked for more support throughout the year. The concept was to support galleries and artist studios that are open throughout the year, where our artists exhibit their work. The Trail introduces visitors to the creative community and inspirational places within Perthshire. The colours of Perthshire are a significant draw for artists, seasons bring the vibrant greens and colours of spring and summer, the golds and reds of autumn and the snow on winter hills. Using either the brochure or the website visitors can plan visits to an area identifying the locations they want to visit.
The Creative Trail is very much intended to attract visitors to various parts of Perthshire, many of them without any costs attached. The inspirational walks and places to visit include those such as, The Birks of Aberfeldy, inspiration for Rabbie Burns whose statue sits at the start of the walk which goes on to include woodlands and waterfalls. The Upper Birks is a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to the diversity of plants and animals. Near Dunkeld there is the Corbenic Poetry Path which showcases some of the best poets living and writing in Scotland. The poetry path works its way in a circular route through open hillside, moorland, ancient native woodlands, hazel coppice and riverbanks. Along the way there are poems and sculptures in a variety of media.
Building on feedback during our pilot year we’re revisiting the creatives included to add more to the mix, this will have the effect of introducing more places to the trail. There are already creatives as diverse as a distillery and winery, in 2024 we’ll be welcoming Iain and his team at the Highland Chocolatier in Grandtully. We’ve approached a selection of businesses that offer courses, tours, etc. We hope our Creative Trail can be a significant tool in helping visitors plan their days out.
