Opening Night of the Showcase Exhibition at The Barn Gallery, The Bield at Blackruthven on Friday 27th August welcomed over 100 artists and invited guests in two separate sessions, to avoid a crowded situation at the venue. The Event was formally opened by the recently retired Lord Lieutenant, Brigadier Sir Melville Jameson, C.B.E. This exhibition runs till 12 September and a Second Showcase Exhibition at Birnam Arts in Dunkeld will be open to the public from 4-26 September. At both Showcase Exhibitions, several examples of the work of Featured Artist, internationally renowned wood designer and sculptor, Aberfeldy based Angus Ross, is on display.
In her speech welcoming guests, Glenys Andrews, President POS, paid tribute to the artists for the wonderful display of art work, to George Bosworth at The Bield for the skilful curating of the works and the POS Production Team for all the planning and preparation involved in staging the event.
Opening Night was also an opportunity for the five ‘Artists in Residence’ to introduce their work to the guests. These artists will be at The Bield for the duration of the Showcase Exhibition and will be invigilating the whole exhibition as well as their own work.
The Open Studios event this year (4-12 September) has 143 venues across Perthshire and Kinross-shire and a dynamic new website has details of the 8 Routes where visitors can meet the artists in their work spaces or galleries. There is an impressive range of art and craftwork on show and visitors can select on the website where they will visit, choosing by artist, or medium or location.
