Zanna Wilson: Call to the West

A solo exhibition of recent new work by Watermill Gallery curator and artist Zanna Wilson

Zanna Wilson has had a wonderful first year curating The Watermill Gallery and has curated a collection of mixed and solo shows over a range of media. ‘Call to the West’ is Zanna’s tenth curated show and it consists of a two-year body of work that picks up where her 2021 ‘Road to the Isles’ solo show left off.

The Isles take centre stage and Zanna has spent a week’s residency with The Old Post Office, Mull in December 2021 and two further trips to Tiree to gather and garner the inspiration for her moody landscapes which for three years have been dominated by sea-fever. Despite Aberfeldy being landlocked Zanna takes frequent trips West and feels the draw of the coastline.

Driving through Glencoe to the Argyll coastline to paint has occupied most of her downtime when she’s not in attendance at The Watermill Gallery. 66 mainly seascape paintings have been put together for this celebratory exhibition where sea meets land and sky.

To accompany this rich body of work, Zanna has commissioned The Scottish Potters Association to create work inspired by the water. ‘Ballad to the Water’ opening on Saturday 16th July will showcase the work of 20 selected SPA members and beautifully complement the theme of sea and water running through the gallery.
